Kunstgewerbe Frieder & André Uhlig e.K. is a traditional master company and stands with its name for original folk art from the Erzgebirge. All products are purely hand-painted.
The family business in the toy village of Seiffen has been producing wooden articles from the Ore Mountains since the turn of the last century. At first, the founder Emil Uhlig and his son, the master turner Kurt Uhlig, made wooden handles and boxes. Toys and folk art from the Erzgebirge have been added since 1950. Today, the name Kunstgewerbe Uhlig stands above all for the traditional small original Erzgebirge angel figures, which were built in their present form as early as the 19th century.
The workshop, which is now in its fourth generation, is run by master turner and wooden toy maker André Uhlig, the grandson of company founder Emil Uhlig, and works with German wood and biodegradable paints. All figures are assembled and painted with the utmost dexterity from countless hand-made individual parts. Different hairstyles, hair colors and faces, the expression of which varies again and again in detail, give the angels a constantly new, individual aspect.
