Big NC Original Egerländer

Inspired by the renowned Egerländer Musikanten, this unique nutcracker captures the spirit and tradition of Bohemian brass music. With roots dating back to 1955, the Egerländer Musikanten were founded by trombonist Ernst Mosch, a Sudeten German refugee who had fled to Bavaria after World War II. At that time, Mosch served as the deputy orchestra leader of the Südfunk Dance Orchestra, performing Bohemian-style music at events like the Bundespresseball in Bad Neuenahr. Following a successful performance, Mosch formed his own brass ensemble, which soon became known as Die Egerländer Musikanten, as most members hailed from the Bohemian region.

In 1956, the twelve musicians recorded their first pieces with Südfunk Stuttgart, marking the beginning of their radio success. Soon after, Mosch signed a recording contract with Telefunken and expanded the ensemble to 18 members. By 1958, due to numerous imitators, the group was renamed Original Egerländer Musikanten, establishing their legacy as the original Bohemian brass band. Mosch, who had initially played the tenor horn, shifted his focus to conducting and singing, leaving the Südfunk Dance Orchestra in 1966 to fully commit to the Egerländer.

Achieving worldwide fame, Mosch and the Original Egerländer Musikanten became the first German orchestra to perform at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall on May 21, 1966, receiving standing ovations. That same year, they embarked on a USA tour, bringing their unique sound to an international audience.
