The image of the shepherd is especially common in the Old Testament. Their social standing was low, as their flocks often did not even belong to them. Most of the time, they slept near their herds to protect them from attacks by wild animals. Shepherds have always been part of the Nativity story — the kind-hearted souls who also watched over the Infant Jesus. In the New Testament, it is written: “Just as a shepherd lays down his life for the sheep, Jesus lays down His life for humanity.”

Our Sepp is one of four shepherds, each handcrafted and hand-painted for the Nativity set. In total, the biblical story is captured through 17 figurines — all made by hand in Rödental and completed by the Hummel Manufactory through many meticulous steps. Together, the Nativity scene beautifully portrays the story of Jesus’ birth — a true treasure for all who wish to celebrate Christmas in a peaceful and reflective way.
