A Nativity scene without the Three Wise Men? Hard to imagine, isn’t it?
That’s why the figures of Caspar and his companions Balthasar and Melchior are also part of our Nativity collection. Strictly speaking, the Bible doesn’t mention three “saints,” but rather three Magi who followed the star and eventually brought their gifts. Melchior (HUM 2230/G) brought gold, and Balthasar (HUM 2230/J) offered frankincense.
In most stories, Caspar is described as being of African origin. Accordingly, our Hummel figurine depicts him with a darker complexion. Caspar wears a green turban, a red cloak over his blue garments, and carries his symbolic gift — myrrh, which even today represents healing, health, and vitality.
Collectors and admirers of Hummel figurines appreciate the loving craftsmanship and harmonious composition these figures create alongside the Holy Family and the shepherds.
All three Wise Men — Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar — are also available individually. For those who prefer to acquire them as a set, we recommend the “Star Singers” (HUM 2412) figure.
The tradition of Star Singing on January 6th has been part of Germany’s UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2015, with nearly 300,000 children and young people taking part every year.
