The Lamb of God – a title that goes back to John the Baptist. Originally, the lamb was not among the animals mentioned in the biblical Christmas story. In Matthew’s Gospel, neither animals nor shepherds appear. Yet, in today’s depictions of the Nativity, the stable animals have become an inseparable part of the story – warming the newborn Child and welcoming Him into the world.
This innocent creature fits beautifully into the biblical ensemble. Together with its counterpart, the lying lamb (HUM 2230/O), and the little calf (HUM 2230/M), it completes the peaceful Nativity scene perfectly.
