Hum 2230/T – Engele

Angels, of course, are an essential part of the Nativity story, for the prophecy of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary is one of the most significant moments in the entire narrative.

“In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
‘Do not be afraid, Mary,’ the angel said, ‘for you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.’”

The angels lend the Nativity scene its true Christian spirit – and they are also a joy to behold. The figure “Engele” is accompanied by the angel “Angela” (HUM 2230/L), who holds a lute, and “Fritz” (HUM 2230/K), who carries a lantern.
