Hummel enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting him: the Annual Angel 2021. For many collectors, it has become a cherished tradition to expand their collection each year with the new Hummel Angel.

In 2021, sculptor Tamara Fuchs created a delightful little messenger from heaven, with one accessory that particularly stands out: a bumblebee has settled on his hand, charmingly linking back to Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. While the artist occasionally included such a little buzzer in her paintings as a playful reference to her name, only very few figurines actually feature a bumblebee.

In the life of Maria Innocentia, who grew up in a deeply religious family, angels – and guardian angels in particular – played an important role from the very beginning. This devotion continued at the Sießen convent, since Saint Francis, founder of the order, held angels in great reverence. It is well known that Maria Innocentia read the book The Ideals of Saint Francis of Assisi by Father Hilarin Felder with great intensity. She also knew the priest personally and even portrayed him. Innocentia likely felt a profound connection to angels. It is therefore no surprise that she depicted these heavenly messengers in so many of her works. To this day, people see angels as welcome companions who offer protection, comfort, and encouragement.
