Hum 147 – Holy Water Font Angel

Immersed in prayer, this little angel from the Hummel Manufactory in Rödental exudes a sense of peace and devotion. Whether used as a home decoration or as a gift for a birth or baptism, the Hummel Angel always watches protectively over the home in which it adorns the wall.

The tradition of holy water fonts is deeply rooted in faith. Even today, holy water fonts — smaller versions of church stoups — are used to hold holy water. They are often found near church entrances, where visitors dip their fingers into the water to make the sign of the cross as a ritual of preparation for prayer. Holy water fonts are also commonly mounted on church walls or in private homes.
