Hum 2230/S – Hannes

An angel appeared and proclaimed to the shepherds:
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:8–14)

The shepherd Hannes is one of four shepherds gathered around the nativity scene. In earlier times, shepherds did not only tend sheep or lambs, but also goats, geese, or horses. Often, the flocks did not even belong to them. Alongside Hannes, the shepherds Sepp (HUM 2230/E), Franz (HUM 2230/D), and Hans (HUM 2230/F) complete the group. Their animals have also been lovingly depicted — take a look at our lambs (HUM 2230/O and HUM 2230/P), our donkey (HUM 2230/N), and our calf (HUM 2230/M).
