Hum 2230/D – Franz

The profession of shepherding is one of the oldest in the world. It’s no surprise, then, that shepherds appear frequently in biblical contexts. Although some held important positions, they were generally considered poor and lived humble, nomadic lives, often sleeping among their animals in the stable. In the Christmas story, the shepherds were the first to see the newborn Savior, after angels announced His birth to them.

Franz is depicted in traditional shepherd’s attire: warm trousers, a shirt, and a vest. He leans on his shepherd’s staff – an essential tool that shepherds used to protect themselves and their flocks from wild animals during their night watch.
